MACAU

We forgot to mention that while in Hong Kong we took a quick trip to Macau.   Macau is an island about 1 hour from Hong Kong by speed ferry or 15mns by helicopter.  Macau used to be a Portuguese colony but was handed back to China a few years ago.  It is basically the Las Vegas of Asia and has actually surpassed Vegas in gambling earnings last year.  There are some crazy casinos there and now that the Vegas casinos have been allowed to built there there is some quick land development going on.  The most interesting thing about Macau is that only about 30% of Chinese citizens are given visas to travel outside of China and most only visas to Hong Kong and Macau.  Now in Chinese culture people feel as though they are born lucky which makes gambling very popular so you can imagine what king of gambling goes on in Macau.  The casinos are packed 24/7.
